2008 - 3rd Annual

We are very excited to announce the 2008 Organic Okanagan Festival expansion plans. With a big thank you to Nature’s Fare Markets and Summerhill Pyramid Winery, our Green Tree sponsors; this year’s festival will be held all over the stunning grounds of the winery. The main vendors’ marketplace will be located on the sunset veranda, a 2000 square foot, and open-air, covered space including an outdoor venue for a mini farmers’ market. The sustainability lecture series and Organic Okanagan Film Festival will be held in the pyramid, with First Nations cultural experiences and a folk music area surrounding the elegant Mallam Heritage House that has been on the property for 110 years. This opens up space for 40+ exhibitors, with more hands-on activities, i.e. mini home energy audits, local food sampling, an organic taste challenge and children’s corner.

IN THE SUMMERHILL PYRAMID

Film:            The Story of Stuff by Annie Leonard

Time:            11:30 am

“From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.” www.storyofstuff.com

Lecture:   Organic Investing, Weeding Your Portfolio - by Stephen Whipp

Now, as a Certified Financial Planner, Stephen’s financial practice takes all he learned as an activist and focuses strictly on socially responsible or sustainable investing and values-based financial planning. Stephen has always been an innovator and a communicator, looking for opportunities to create connections and synergies among people, organizations and businesses that will further the cause of sustainability.” Stephen Whipp
